Pipes

So, continuing the idea that the contractors who worked on this house weren't the most qualified professionals, let's visit the plumbing. Plumbing is something we have been learning a lot about lately. Especially the importance of venting and trapping. Here you see more before and after photos - the before is NOT vented or trapped, the after is.

You may notice in the after picture that we have had to do a fair amount of concrete excavation.

Speaking of concrete, our plumber, Michael, noticed that the drain pipe under the tub had concrete poured over it and there were some black marks that looked like burn marks. Since plumbing doesn't require burning, he was perplexed, and fairly convinced that the concrete had been poured to cover up a bad job. If you take a close look at that pipe below, you can see that instead of selecting the proper curved pipe for the job, the contractor took whatever he had and melted it down to curve the way he wanted it to. That might not be so structurally sound, and its probably a good thing we found it now!

But, now it is all done and done correctly! Funny thing is, it would have cost them less money to do it right the first time (not to mention it would have cost us less!!!)

More plumbing drama to be posted later...
