We were looking around this weekend for someone willing to do such a small job at short notice for not a ton of money. Kind of a trifecta that conspired to keep us from finding anyone (except this guy outside Home Depot who came up to us while we were loading up drywall and said he could do it all in one day for $250. Hmmm.). But, Adam's Spanish came in handy once again while chatting with our Salvadorean neighbors. It turns out that her nephew is working on getting his contractor's license and does some small jobs on the side.
He came over tonight, and his uncle joined him - either to help or to keep an eye on him to make sure he didn't upset the neighbors by doing a bad job. He made it all look incredibly easy, but it still took him a few hours just to get all the drywall up. I am imagining that would have taken us about two weeks... He'll be back tomorrow night to do the taping and the first layer of mud, then Wednesday night for the second layer.

And get this - it turns out he's Mormon. Our neighbors are not, so it never occurred to us that he might be. It turns out that he is the only member in his family and joined the Church in El Salvador when he was 17. He and Adam knew a lot of the same people since he used to be the Young Men's leader in the Ward Adam is currently serving in. It's a small world!
