Idealism and Realism

No, this isn't a commentary on the current presidential election. It's a lesson we've learned working on the basement - that everything takes longer than you think it will. Everything. My post the other night was very rosy. What I failed to remember is that before one can paint the base moulding, it would all need to be up. And since we constructed new walls and changed old walls, that required new and or changed moulding. And when your mitre saw won't really fit the piece of moulding you are working with, that takes extra time and extra steps!!!

So, Sunday afternoon and night were all about moulding. Getting it cut, getting it up, and caulking. At least the new trim around the new closet door looks really good (maybe better minus the painter's tape in the picture below). Sunday night and Monday morning we painted the trim and the doors. Phew.

Monday night, we were able to move on to flooring. The challenge of working all day and then coming home to work on the basement at night is that it doesn't take long for it to be too late to do any hammering or sawing. These pictures show you how far we got last night. Looks like this week is going to be a race to the finish!!

You guys are amazing. I wish my landlord had half the motivation you do.
