One thing our house has been lacking is storage space. There was a nice sized closet above the stairs when we moved in, but there were no shelves to make it actually useful. Sounds like a perfect house project!
I think I came home from Namibia back in the summer to find the closet like this. There had been a floor on the bottom, but it was built so high that you end up losing a ton of space. Adam went ahead and ripped that out and all the found space inspired us to decide to build in a custom laundry hamper at the bottom.
We have more work to do on the laundry hamper part, but the rest of the closet looks amazing! Adam even devised this very clever way to allow us to stain all the support brackets at the same time.
